Response To Loretta Lux

The picture is very clear and in focus. The light seems natural based on the fact its setting is a beach in the daytime. The different colors formed from the sky give a soft touch to the rocky sand in the foreground and creates an even blend on the horizon.

The girl in the image is to the left, but this helps to show off the beach in the background. The girl, although at the beach, seems to have a sad facial expression and has her eyes averted from the camera. She gives the "pleasant beach" feel a melancholy effect. Although beaches are usually filled with lots of people swimming and hanging out, there aren't any other people in the background or the water, showing the girl by herself. This aloneness correlates with the unenthusiastic expression on her face.

The image questions that maybe it isn't a popular beach or maybe the girl is there alone because there isn't anyone for her to bring there, changing the picture from what at first seemed pleasant to something a little more depressive. It's also interesting how just by making the girl seem upset and alone the image can seem unpleasant despite all the bright colors, that are usually meant to liven it up.
